A second life for a useful brewing tool
OpenBrew is a community recipe workspace for the practical side of homebrewing: building recipes, understanding the numbers, and recording what happened when you brewed them.
Brewgr was created in 2011 by software engineers and homebrewers Matthew Marksbury and Jason Zimmerman. They built a simple cloud-based place for brewers to create, share, and improve recipes at a time when tools like that were hard to find.
When the original service stopped operating at the end of 2025, its open-source codebase was still too useful to leave behind.
OpenBrew is a modernized fork of that original codebase: the familiar recipe builder, calculations, sharing, and brewing workflows are being restored carefully, with a cleaner interface and an open path forward.
